    Windows 7 New instal.

    Generic Non-PnP. Monitor.15" (diag) screen
Current resolution 640x480. Pages too large for screen.
Opened Control Panel, Clicked on 'Adjust Screen Resolution'
came up with 'Change appearance of display' it showed a figure '1' in a square with 'Detect' and 'Identify'. also 'Display: 1 Generic Non-PnP Monitor on standard VGA graphics adapter.
Clicked on 'Make text and other items larger or smaller', now have 'Make it easier to read what's on your screen'
Shows radio button highlighted' Smaller =100%(default)

And " You can't change this setting because the height of your display is less than 600 pixels "
Where do I go from here ?

    Could you provide a screenshot?

Are Graphics and Display drivers up-to-date?

Only contributing members can post screenshots. IMO, he needs a better monitor.

Did you run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor before installing 7 ?

That would have told you of any hardware/software issues. A 15" monitor is miniscule by today's standards - CRT??

You need to install the video driver.

If the video is part of the motherboard, what is the make and model number of the motherboard?

If the video is a separate video adapter, what is the make and model number of the video adapter?

    -- edit --

What is the make and model number of the monitor?

Hi Spanner, If you took the time to fill in your System Details, I'm sure accurate advice could be given immediately. We're all guessing at the moment. Neil.

    I concur with SpywareDr.

You need to install the drivers for your video card before doing anything.

Hi Spyware Doc, The monitor that this thread relates to is now on my computer bench, the owner did not like the new one he bought, it was too tall to go under the shelf above?.
The Medion monitor model number is definitely MD7415TE I read it under a magnifier.
Note Windows 7 recently installed for 'already installed on your system 'with service pack 1 32 bit version. I ran a driver recovery disk, results Resolution still cannot be changed , quote "You can't change this setting because the height of your display is less than 600 pixels" the resolution is 640 x 480 at the moment.
As posted earlier, when the PC ,OS was XP the monitor was ok with a higher resolution.
Can't understand why resolution changed when upgrading to Windows 7.
Apparently the new Monitor, ( that will not fit under shelf ) resolution ok.
    Spanner.

Morning Doc ( well it is here) just about to try your advice and install appropriate video driver, Question, can I download , for free, and why was the driver missing, or not functioning, when he upgraded to windows 7, I know the upgrade was the basic, but I thought the change of screen resolution would not have been required as the pc , video card and monitor had not changed.
    Thanks
    Spanner.
