Is there any sites where I can download freeware (not teh trial version stuff) to expand my screen resolution and colors? I only have 2 and 16 colors and I have a 17 inch monitor. I just repaired a computer (that you guys helped me do with advice) and now I want to increase the above things.

    What must I do?

I am running Win98SE, 3GB hard-drive. Pretty loaded. I have like 2.5 Gigs left to use.

    Free-ware! free-ware! Free-Ware!

    Thanks.

Your resolution and color range is determined by the inherent qualities of your video card. If you have a card that supports more features, then you must install the matching drivers for that card, else get a better card. You can get a decent video card for under 50 bucks at any computer store nowadays.

Sounds like your computer is using the generic video drivers. As TonyT said, you need to find and install the drivers for your video card (also called "Display Adapter" in Device Manager).

If you didn't get a floppy or a CD containing the drivers with the video card and if you know the card's make and model, go to the manufacturer's web site and download the drivers for that card and operating system. If there are any specific instructions on the web site, or in any readme files packed with the drivers, be sure to follow them.

If you don't know the make and model of the card, download, install and run Aida32 (get the "Personal System Information" version) which will give you the information you need to find the right drivers.
