Hi Folks, Recently I purchased a new Packardbell computer running on Windows XP Home Edition. I use Ntlworld Broadband to connect to the internet. When I log onto some sites the complete pages of text etc are only displayed on the screen for three quarters of its width. There is always a two inch blank space down the right hand side of the screen.

When I use the same internet connection on another computer running Windows 98SE I am able to download the same sites full screen.

I am thinking that perhaps there is some setting in Windows XP that needs to be adjusted. Can anyone please advise? Regards, William.

The quick answer to your question is, nope, there's nothing you can do about it except set your monitor's resolution lower. Here's why.

The blank area on the right side of a web site is due to how the web site was constructed. Instead of setting it up to use a percentage of the screen, it was set up to use a precise number of pixels.

Most web sites are constructed to be viewed on monitors set at 800 X 600 (that's 800 pixels wide, 600 pixels high) because that's the most commonly used resolution setting. It's the default setting on most Windows systems and most people don't change it or don't know it can be changed.

If your monitor is set at a higher resolution, 1024 X 768 or higher, you can see how a web page set to use 800 X 600 pixels will not cover the entire screen. On a monitor set at a resolution lower than 800 X 600, such a page will run off the side of the screen, requiring sidways scrolling to see it all.

Web pages set up to use 100% of the screen will fill the screen no matter what the resolution.

You can change the monitor's resolution in Control Panel>Display>Settings tab.

You can also crab the edge of the Window with the Mouse so the you get the double arrow and drag it over, up or down to resize the Window.

That is a new one on me. I can grab the edges of any screen at any time and resize it.

    OOPPSSS !!! maybe not.

If I have it maximized with the button in the upper right corner I can't.

If I have it minimized then I can.
