After many attempts, have been successful in scheduling tasks with Win XP. However, the tasks are automatically opened at the designated times but do not run. They are show in the "status" as "running" but they are not. I have attempted to run Norton AV, Ad Adware and Disk Cleanup but after long waits, I manually close the programs. Suggestions would be appreciated. Incidentally, I can manually start the programs with no problems.

There needs to be a password on the account for ST to work. Set one if you haven't already.

The Task Scheduler will allow you to execute programs, scripts or commands at set times.

If you schedule a program, and that program does not have a command-line facility for auto-running after it is initialized, then there's nothing the Task Scheduler can do.

You need to find the command-line equivalent or see if the application has any parameters to do what you want.

    Task Scheduler

Thanks to all for the suggestions. I failed to mention that I had set a password for running the TS and it apparently is working as intended. I suspect that auto running, as suggested, is the problem and will have to learn more about the command line facility. Each of the programs run well when I start them manually so again, apparently the autorun is the problem. Thank you again and I'll let you know how it works out. These programs ran well with Win 98 but not so with the XP.
