Okay, here's the past on my piece of garbage pc:

    PC Resurrection again

My PC has been crashing these past few days, and I'm afraid it's at the end of it's restorative life. Luckily I'll be getting a new one by the end of the month, but I really need to keep this going as long as possible.

When I do scanreg/restore at the C:, I only get six days worth of selections. Previously I was getting more. And with every bad start, one of my valid registries goes away. Right now I only have a valid registry from 12/31. When I've restored, I can resurrect the PC, but it doesn't restore another valid registry.

Am I going to lose any chance of resurrection if I use this last restore date? Is there a way to get more? A way to restore another way?

Any help to keep this on life support a few more weeks would be appreciated!

Value of 5 backups is Windows' default. Yoy can custimze that value up to 99.
Open "scanreg.ini" located in Windows directory, find an entry:
    MaxBackupCopies=
change the number from 5 to whatever you wish (up to 99), go File>Save, and you are done.

You can make a copy of the registry backup you think is good. Go to C:\Windows\sysbckup and copy the desired rbxxx.cab file to another location. (Set to show all files.)

Then if you ever want to restore that one again, copy it back into the sysbckup folder with an appropriate name.

Another trick - go Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Information. Under the Tools tab, Registry Checker will allow you to back up the registry again. It overwrites the most current one (I think), so maybe you make a copy of the good one(s) first.

    Thanks!

Thanks for the info! Just a few more weeks and this paperweight will be headed to a dumpster. I'll see about expanding the registry and getting a clean copy of a good date.
