I have a Canon MP830 which I use as a scanner. I do not use much PDF, but I would like to get the document into MS Word so I can edit. I apparently am missing a step because the Word page is unreadable. I read somewhere, after scanning, about then using OCR and while I know what it means, I don't know what to do or how to do it. It also saves in the MP Navigator file, but that doesn't transfer to Word. I know it can save in PDF but I don't have a program for that and I am fairly knowledgeable in MS Word. Any help?

You'll need to do the scanning using OCR (Optical Character Recognition) sofware. Most scanners have OCR software on their installation CDs.

Once you have the OCR sofware installed, look through its Help Files to get started.

Keep in mind that OCR documents are seldom perfect. The clearer the original, the better the scanned result. For example, OCR software may try to render photocopier smudges or fingerprints into text.

In addition, the more formatting on the original...graphs, lines such as those found on forms to be filled out...the less accurate the scanned result will be.

Miz, thank you. Great quick reply! I will have to reinstall to see what programs I have been missing on the printer. Thanks so much.
