I have 2 scanners an HP 3400cc and a Relisys which is a bit older. Now i have 2 stand alone pc's and i connected a scanner to each pc.

my question is this ... the software with the relisys scanner is a bit old so i installed its twain driver and i am using paint shop pro to scan images because psp has more features/options. is it possible that i would install the software (not the driver) of my hp scanner so i can use that software for both scanners ? i want to do this because my hp software let me save items into pdf, word document formats etc, which i don't manage to do so in psp.

Moreover, if this is not possible, is there any third party scanner software which may do the job for me ?

Thanks in advance for you help!

    Hi Max

I pretty sure that what you want to to is not technically feasible - scanner software is written specifically for a particular make/family of scanners and will not work with other makes.

However there is a possibility worth looking at - you mentioned you wanted to save as *.pdf files. I may be out of line here, but I use FinePrint pdfFactory to convert Word files to pdf. It appears in the Print dialogue box as a 'printer' and prints to a pdf file. This may be worth looking at - I guess there's a trial version at the above link.

Whether or not it works with PSP I've no idea, but worth a try?

thx for your reply. However, my problem is that i am using psp to scan and this application does not give me the opportunity to save as a word file, so that then i can convert them to pdf using the application you mentioned.

actually, what i was looking for, is that since psp is a software that manages to scan images for a large variety of scanners, i thought there maybe there is something similar (general) which may deal with word/pdf formats too apart from dealing with graphics format only.

    Thanks!

PeteC's suggestion should work for you. There is no need to first convert the document to a Word file. You just scan your document and do whatever it is you want to with in PSP and then click file>print and choose the pdf printer driver. I'm not familiar with this particular one but in the end the printer driver will create a PDF file from what you created in PSP. You should be able to use it to create PDF's from within most any app. There's another one I've use in the past called Free PDF that you can try if you want. The setup is sort of a hassle but if you follow the instructions it's not that big a deal. Works great.

I tried out my suggestion re. using pdfFactory in Photoshop - 'printed' a *.psd file to *.pdf, saved it and then reopened it in Photoshop. Worked fine. Give it a try - there is a free trial download at the URL I gave - checked this morning.

It may not be the ideal solution, but if it works for you ...... :)
