I read somewhere recently that Scandisk was called something else in XP. Disk Check or Error Check seems to spring to mind. But hard as I have tried I cannot find anything like that anywhere. Can anyone point me in the right direction.

    Regards

You can find it via the GUI at My Computer > select a Drive > right click it > select Properties > Tools > Check Now > Start. If you don't tag either of those boxes you see, it will run in Windows. If you tag either one, you'll be asked to allow it to run when you reboot so any possible repairs can be made.

However, I prefer to run it from the XP command prompt. To do so, open a command prompt window and type chkdsk. This will give you a report after completing, which the GUI version doesn't do. You can use the available switches there as well. For a list, type chkdsk/? at the command line.
