    Hi,
I installed a thing from Windows Update called Windows IDE Hard Drive Cache Package, and it has caused my system to say that there might be bad sectors and loads Scandisk, then a surface-scan. Nothing like this was happening before that. Microsoft recommends this package for a so-called issue that doesn't exist until you install this wretched package. Please how can I fix this to prevent Scandisk and surface-scan from auto loading at boot?
    I'm using Win98SE.

    Many thanks.

    UPDATE-

    Oh thank goodness!
Last night I just couldn't be bothered to wait for a 180GB surface scan. But today I tried it, patience paid off, and it's now sorted. It seems Scandisk only wanted to check, re-shuffle it all, and quarantine any "bad sectors ".
