This computer was given to me and it has ME on it which I know nothing about. I have tried to ScanDisk and Defrag, but keep getting the following message, "ScanDisk cannot continue because a program such as a disk utility has locked this drive." I cannot figure out what is preventing the scan or defrag. Can anyone help me?

    Run them in Safe mode.

I have tried running both in Safe Mode, but apparently from what I have read in other cases like this, there is not another program running that is causing them not to work. Even in Safe Mode, the message still says that they have been LOCKED by a disc utility.

Another quirk of ME running defrag, is if you have "quick launch" enabled on your taskbar. Usually have to remove before running defrag, even in safe mode.
