    Hi folks,

I am finding that I need to send more than 1 fax in 2 years these days, and I know little about where we are technologically with the printer/fax/copier, etc. combo's.

I know that I am supposedly able to fax right from my BlackBerry, too. :D

Can I ask you guys what the best/most efficient/best price/best quality (photo quality is NOT important, only readability)?

So far, I know there is PamFax for Skype, which I use all the time to make international calls anyway. There is probably much better hardware/software out there that is better?

Finally, my girlfriend is by no means a computer person. However, she says she had heard about scanning something in and faxing it (not as an attachment but it supposedly comes out on the other end as a fax, or the receiving party can only print the fax?? PDF's, or any other method that would make it come out as a fax machine is what I would be most interested in.

    Thanks everyone. :)

P.S.: My GF can't cook either. Unbelievable. :(

I really don't know what you are asking for. You mention printer/fax/copier, etc. which is a hardware device that uses a phone line to send and receive faxes, then you mention PamFax, which is uses no hardware and your Internet connection to send fax copies of your documents you upload.

If you are looking to buy a new multifunction printer to attach to your computer or local network that also faxes (via an attached phone line), scans and copies documents, there are hundreds - from less than $100 to more than $1000.

Well, that's pretty much how a fax machine works - it scans a document, converts the image to data, and sends it away. A scanner scans a document, converts the image to data, and saves it disk. From there it can be faxed, emailed, printed, or whatever. A copier scans the document, converts to data, and sends it to the internal printer.
