Can someone tell me if Scandisk is still avaible or needed in Win XP & if so how do I find it?

Someone at a computer shop told me to pull the main electrical plug from the computer then plug it back in and XP would start running Scandisk--didn't sound like a plan to me.
    Thank you
    Paul:confused:

XP uses Checkdisk (chkdsk.exe) instead. One way to access it is to open My Computer > right click the drive you want to check > select properties > Tools > then Check Now > Start. Leave the two boxes blank normally. If it completes, all is fine. It'll not tell you anything unless there is a problem. If there is, you'll be asked to allow it to run on the next reboot. Say Yes, and it'll do that automatically and handle the errors if possible.

    Cheers. :)
