    Hi Everyone

I've got a couple of problems with SBS 2003/Exchange that I hope you can help me with.

Firstly: Is it possible to forward a users email to an 'external' (eg: me@home.com rather than me@work.com) email address?
It appears that I can only forward to internal users....is this correct?

Secondly: I know this may sound strange but we need to be able to receive email to unknown users. At present all unknown recipient emails are rejected but 'for reasons beyond my control' I need to be able to receive this mail to an account like postmaster@ so that it can be sorted through, as some of the mail is genuine but with a slightly wrong address. (yes I know I can/should get the people who are sending these mails to send them to the correct addresses but for the short term I will not be able to do so....long story  ) Also there are too many variations of the addresses to temp add them as aliases to the user accounts.

fyi: We are using an SMTP mail feed NOT POP3.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance :)

The answer to question 1 is yes you can enable to forward messages outside. You need to open Exchange System Manager, expand Global Settings, Select Internet Message Formats, then on the right side double-click default. This opens the Defautl Properties. Go to the Advanced tab and select Allow Automatic Forward.

As far as question 2 goes, I think you can do this, but I will have to do some more checking and get back with you.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Eric

Thanks for the info - I found the setting and changed it BUT when I go to Deliverey Options under USERS it will still only allow me to enter a local users email address :(

Something somewhere is set-up incorrectly but I just cannot find it...any ideas???

    Cheers

Ok. I was thinking you were creating a rule in Outlook for the user to forward messages when they come in. That is how we have done it at work. I went in and looked at what you are trying to do. I think what you will need to do is create a "Contact" object for the addresses you want to forward e-mails to. Basically this just consists of a name and the outside e-mail address. Once the Contact is created you should be able to select it from A.D.

Let me know if that works or if you have any other questions about this.

As for your "Catch All" account, I came across this site while doing some searches. It appears that several people have used this and have gotten it to work. The zip file that contains the files is located in the third paragraph.

Not a problem. I'm glad I could help.

How did that catch-all script work out? Was it easy to get up an running?

I didn't install it myself but the person who did says he had no real problems - it's now running fine on two servers.
