I have setup a new server as above. I have defined all users and computer stations to the server. However when I login to a workstation and open IE entering the following

http://servername/connectcomputer I receive the server not found reply. I have checke the DNS and all seems correct! Please help before I run out of hair.

A couple of things to try.

First make sure that the client PCs are set to automatically get IPs. If DHCP on the server is working correctly, you should be able to see the server's IP set as the DHCP server and the DNS server when you run ipconfig at the command prompt. You should also be able to ping the IP address of the server from each of the addresses. If you succeed here, the client PCs are on the network and able to communicate with the server.

The next thing I would try is connecting to the server URL via these paths:

    http://server_ipaddress/connectcomputer

    and

    http://servername.domain.name/connectcomputer

If only the first option works, you have a name resolution problem. If both work but http://servername/connectcomputer still doesn't then you have a NetBIOS name resolution problem.

Try these things and post back with how you get on. We should then be able to drill into the root cause of the problem.

Easily done. It can be confusing that most Microsoft network run two name resolution systems.

What exactly does the client do? I was looking at the setup.exe and Not sure what it's purpose is. I just found it in a login script and would like to remove it if possible.
