When Saving pages at Web Sites, I have known that at some version of Netscape the program started also saving the associated files/images to that particular page.

Apparently, I had no need or paid little attention but, I only recently learned my Netscape version 7.02 is also revising the source code. Primarily I have noticed after saving to my computer, the local page links are being revised to http:// back to the URL from where they came.

    My Questions:

    1. At what version of Netscape did this feature start.
    2. Is there a way to turn off saving of the associated files and/or the elimination of the source code being revised.

I have been observing this forum for several months now, but, this is my first posting and question so if I didn't do it correctly please forgive me.

Once I get aquainted I will probably be a pest with questions.

My main operating system is Windows 98 and I have been using Netscape since about version 1.0

    THANKS,

Welcome to the Forum, Old Chief!

    Hi Old Chief,

The ability to save images with a web page originated in Mozilla 0.9.7, and would probably have made it to Netscape in Version 6.2... I believe Netscape 6.2 was based on Mozilla 0.9.4 - 0.9.7. I would have to do more thorough research to confirm.

This Bug Report has quite a bit of information regarding the above, and may answer your questions:

    Bug Report

    THANKS Ramona,

I read the subject bug report from beginning to end and found it very interesting and something of an eye opener.

It sort of made me feel awful insignificant in the overall scheme of things relative to my question.

If they been discussing the subject for 3 years then I will assume there is no way to turn the feature OFF and ON AND the only solution, I reckon, is to use an old version of Netscape when I want to save a Web Page without the associated files.

As I see it, it is not the additional file/image saving that causes a problem but, rather the modifing of the original source code.

    THANKS Again,

    Hi Ray,

I did have to do some scratching to find which Version of Netscape first started saving the entire content of a web page, (associated files). ;)

Oh no, you don't have to do that at all. When you save a page:
    File | Save As
    OR
    Right click

In the "Save As" window there is a drop down menu for the Save As Type
To save the complete web page (including associated files) then you would select: "Web Page, complete "

If you want the page without associated files, then in the drop down menu select:
    Web page, HTML only
You will not see the folder containing the associated files...

Well, Thanks a whole bunch Ramona - That is the fix I was looking for and the answer to it all.

I guess using a program for so long cause dummies like me to over look the obvious when a new version comes out.

    THANKS, Again

Sorry, I forgot to also say THANKS for providing the version information when the change was made.

I am kind of a stubborn feller and went from Netscape version 3.04 to 7.0 without using any of the in between versions very much. Stayed with Windows 3.1 until forced to change by the ISP.

I have another question on older version of Netscape vrs the newer versions. But, it is a different subject so I will start a new tread.

    THANKS, Again

    Hi Ray,

Hey, no "dummy" talk allowed around here! ;) It's very easy to overlook all the bells and whistles, drop down menu's, etc.

Always a pleasure to be able to help, and post away if you have more questions.

    Ramona :D
