    Os: Windows XP Pro
    Internet service: DSL
    Using: Outlook Express

    Here is my request:

We use Outlook Express to download our e-mail from the DSL provider "Bellsouth.net ".

And in our "Inbox" there are the e-mails.

    ***************************************

I like to keep all my e-mails, so I save them to a folder on drive D.
However, the only way we have been able to do that is "Save.... One e-mail at a time "

The volume of e-mails is big.
Saving them one at a time is time intensive.

    Question:

So. (Example - I have 105 e-mails showing) how can we select them all and save them to that folder on drive D ?

Would save a lot of time !

    Thanks

I make another folder in OE for mail I want to keep for a really long time. I just drag the mail there from the in box....

This Special.dbx could be copied to another drive for backup...

jbarker--OE Edit|Select All will highlight all email in a given folder, then you can right click on any one of the highlighted messages and either drag and drop or Send To the folder you have created as suggested by Steven R Jones.

Oh me - You did not get it !

Sorry - the answers we got were Outlook Express only.

What we do is select an e-mail and save to:

Then we go to drive X and save it to a folder as an .eml file.

Your answer is good, but only for Outlook Express folders.

Sorry, but we are still looking for a way to save those e-mails
to a different "Drive" wholesale - not just one at a time.
(That can be done - try it !)

Try this: Create a new folder on your desktop - name it "Todays E-mails" or whatever.

:Open OE and size so you can see the desktop go to the inbox and select (highlight) all the 105+- e-mails you want to save.

:Left click on the highlighted e-mails and drag them and drop into the folder you created on the desktop.

:Open Windows Explorer and size the WE and OE windows so you can see both.

-Drag the new folder full of the e-mails to the drive and directory you want.

Worked for me so should work on your setup.:)

After you have the e-mails on the D drive or where ever you can delete the desktop folder.

Same procedure should work for Outlook as well.

Well, I thought that was what you wanted and to what I responded.
Did you try the procedure I provided? "Select All" selects all. When the highlighted messages are dragged to another folder, they will be saved as .eml files. And when you transfer the new folder (with all those messages) to another drive, you will have what you seemed to request.
There are two ways to save OE files.
    1) You can save OE email as .eml files. That is what you will get following the procedure JohnB and I suggested. These files can be read by just clicking on them. They can be freely transferred (and burned) elsewhere.
    2) You can also save as .dbx files. You can do that according to this procedure
    http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/270/6/70.ASP
But you will not be able to read the .dbx files until they are put back into a OE Store Folder (or you use a third party program such as DBXtract).

I don't like to save individual emails concerning a subject as eml files. I c/v the contents to a text file "Joe'sbirthdayparty" and then file the email for keeps in a dbx like Steve & Jim described, or delete it. I don't know of any way to save multiple emails from OE (the moment you highlight two, you lose the "save as" option, and it's always been that way.) That's why I fell into the habit of c/v into notepad, and F5 will timestamp each entry.
Not the answer you wanted, but I am confirming there is no way to do what you want (though there should be!)

Someone finally told the truth !

    There is no way !

    Thanks.

We will continue to save them one at a time.

    Johanna--
Did you try what I suggested? Or you can save just a few at a time by first highlighting those few (hold down Control and click on the files in the email list) and then right click|dragging into the folder created elsewhere. Now, I know you do not like .eml files, but that is how you save multiple .eml files.
And that is what jbarker said he wanted to do.
    And it can be done.

I must not understand still. Jim's way should work. Try about 15 or 20 at a time and see what happens. Click on the subject line of one of the messages to highlight it and then, while holding down the shift key, click on one farther down the list. This will highlight the first one you click on, also the last and everything in between them. Open windows explorer to the folder or drive you want to save them on and then click on one of the highlighted emails in OE and drag it to windows explorer. All of those that are highlighted will be saved in the folder or drive you drag them too. It works for me whether or not it's to a different drive.

Yes, it works, but it's a work-around. As jbarker pointed out, once you highlight more than one email in OE you lose the "save as" option.

Good to see you around again :)

By definition 'Save As' will only operate on a single file - the object of 'save as' is to either change the location of the save to directory or to save the file under a different name - hence multiple 'save as's' are not possible as Windows has no idea if you want to change the name or location.

    That's how I see the situation :)
