Whenever I want to save a file download from the internet the box pops up with the last files/folders I saved in previously. The only way to find the new location is to click on Computer, then the C drive etc. Why is the blue back arrow greyed out so I can't just use it to back up to the C drive?
Windows 7 64bit. Thanks for any help.

The back arrow is only live when you have visited other locations in that current explorer type window session. When the window opens that is the only location you have visited at that time - hence there is nothing to go back to.

So isn't there a quicker easier way than having to click on "Computer ", then " "C ", then "My Documents" etc? The folders in the left pane will not stay open ie "C" showing all the folders in C. If the pane would just keep those open it would save a lot of clicking?
    Thanks

What are you seeing in the left pane of the save location dialogue box? Perhaps you have layout option not showing the navigation pane. Try clicking "organize ">layout>and check "navigation pane ". With this pane I have access to any location on my computer using only a few clicks to one click. Make sure "hide folder" option is not used. This is button located in lower left hand side of save dialogue box. See:
    http://help.artaro.eu/images/win7/w7ccleaner20.jpg

It should be much like winexplorer would be with a list of places you can save to. Using only the left hand pane to maneuver, the category or icon "computer" should open and offer c:\*, and when double clicked upon, will expand to display all folders which is still in the left hand pane. I can move in and out of folders as desired.

Desktop icon is always listed so, you may find it easier to place a shortcut on the desktop that, when double clicked upon opens c: and you can click away until you find the folder you want.

Point is, there are many different ways and choices to customize or make this work for you. Perhaps if you were more specific on exactly what it is you desire, a suggestion could be offered.

I am seeing just exactly what the link you provided shows. What I want is for "C" drive to show along with all the folders on the C drive, but just the folders not any sub-folders. Under "Folder Options" I have checked both "Show All" & "Automatically Expand" the folders and it now does show the C drive and all the folders but also shows all the sub-folders too that I had to open under my documents so the list is pretty long. So I guess what it does is always default back to the last open folder. This is better than what I started with (the pic in the link you provided). No way to make the navigation pane wider either I suppose?
    Thnaks for your help!

What happens if you uncheck both folder view settings
    1>show all folders
    2>aromatically expand

And just use left hand pane>double click on computer>double click on c:\

Another thing to keep in mind is the path shown to the right of backward/forward path, is clickable. Anything in this path (in between black arrows) can be clicked upon and will open that folder. Those black arrows also offer dropdown lists. See "picture link" again, in previous thread up above, if this is confusing.

How about that shortcut to c:\ placed on desktop? Seems excessive to me but you may find it handy. That way you just have to click on the left pane choice "desktop" and maneuver to the shortcut and double click on that.

    -------------------
Sizing? Use arrows to adjust size. You can control whole box size or left pane right pane. Just hold mouse over edgoe of line until sizing arrow shows up and drag to adjust.

I have a C icon on the desktop, but you can't use that when saving a file for download as the save link opens up its own box. I have tried to re-size the pop-up box navigation pane when trying to save a download file and the only thing that is possible is the "overall" size, the navigation pane will not re-size, have tried many times.

    Hi,

Double click the computer icon, on the desktop,
and right click "hold and drag" to the desktop the "c drive"
    and drop>choose to "create a shortcut ".

To clarify, I am not talking about the initial save or open choice box but the location navigation box that appears after you chose to save.

Even though this is a popup save location box, all icons are clickable and will expand or open, even a c:\shortcut from the desktop. Test it:
*See my nick "goddez1" over there on the left?
*Right click on one and chose the option to "save link as ",
    *location box will popup.
*From left pane click on "desktop ",
*in right pane click c:\ shortcut.
For that matter you can click on the "my computer "...etc
*Click away, explore, be adventurous. :D
When done x close it or cancel download. This is a mini "windows explorer ".

The line between the left and right pane will slide. Slowly move the mouse over it until you see the sizing arrow.

    Hi again,

Bless your heart. "You got it" and "you did it" are two different things. Did you accomplish or do as desired or are you just plain tired of messing with this?

If so can you please mark this post as resolved:
