I have purchased my first computer in which I have set up both my wife and I as separate users. Problem: she likes to have the resolution set up so that the icons and text are big, I like them small and at a higher resolution. Since the desktop settings are remembered (presence and placement of icons) for each of our log-ins, how can I save the resolutions so that we don't have to change them manually at each log-in?

??? It should be remembering your preferences and loading them when you log on. Log off, she logs on, and it should use her preferences.

I know XP will keep all the items you mentioned by user profile and while 2K isn't quite as good, I think it will keep those settings as well.

Take a look at This article and see if you spot any setup issues on your PC.

    Hello,

I have just done some testing on a Windows 2000 machine in a domain using roaming profiles and have found that :

    1) Screen resolution,

    2) Font size

    3) Colour depth,

    4) Monitor refresh rate

all appear to be machine specific rather than user specific. The font size even needs Admin rights to change!!

I am very surprised that the first three items are not included in the user profiles as the way the desktop looks is one of the main reasons for having profiles in the first place. The monitor refresh rate would I suppose have to be suited to each individual machine.
