saved web page

I have Internet Explorer 6.0 on my Windows XP computer. When I am on a web page, and I click File, Save As, type in the file name, and then click Save, the web page is saved to my desktop. But after I turn the computer off and then turn the computer on again and have not connected to the internet and I click on that saved web page icon on my desktop, a screen comes up stating "Which internet connection do you want to choose" and it will not open the page for me unless I am connected to the internet. What can I do to avoid getting that message every time I open a saved web page? Thank you very much.

 

What happens if you just remain offline?

When you saved the page, your probably also saved references to third party ads or something that dynamically updates.

You can edit the file to remove those references.

In your post you didn't specify which save as web option you use. Have you tried using more than one?

In the "Save" panel, choose "Web page complete...html... ".
Works for me. The hypelinks in the page shouldn't be an issue unless you click on one off line.

I have good luck using the web archive (.mht) file type for saving. Slightly larger file but you have the whole thing.

 

See the two suggestions above. Those are methods I don't commonly use and think about, and the suggestions are good. I have employed those methods, but infrequently. Most of the time I cut and paste the portion of a web page that I want to preserve. This sometimes drags in unwanted code. I'm familiar with what I need to do to remove unwanted references, and while it happens quickly for me, it might not happen quickly for somebody not familiar with editing html. Albeit, most of the time, I just preserve a short-cut to the original page.
