"save as" trouble in word

When I have a word document open and try to "save as" instead of the window popping up to save the file in another name the file name in the task bar starts to flash. I then have to click on it and the document closes and the save as window opens up. How do I set up "save as" to open up on top of the open document?

I seem to say this a lot...probably because doing this fixes so many seemingly unrelated problems in Word ...

I've seen the flashing title bar problem caused by a corrupt "normal.dot" file. Just do a search on the harddrive for normal.dot and when it's found, just delete it. Make sure Word is not running at the time.

Word will build a new normal.dot next time it's opened.
