OK, I'v had this problem before.
And we tried all the suggested fixs.
And we never did solve the problem.

    OS is Windows XP Pro.
    Use Outlook Express.
    Use IE.

    Problem:

When we get an e-mail or when we log on to a plain old webb page - and -
there is a .GIF (Animated Graphic) that we like then:

Once upon a time we could just "Right Cliclk" and select "Save Picture As" and
the graphic could be saved as a .GIF (or even >JPG, or .BMP).

Then one day it only gave me the choice to save as .BMP - period !

I posted to BBS and got lots of suggestions - they never solved "MY" problem. (Gould be me !)

    Now:

We just finished updating and installing Service Pack 2. (on August 28).
Tine consumeing but it worked fine.

I could even "Right Click" on a .GIF graphic and save it as a .GIF.

    THat was yesterday.

Today we turned on the computer and we are back to that old problem again.

    Can only save as .BMP.

OK, anyone out there - throw those suggestions at me again.
    We'll try to fix.

Is there any way to get Windows to accomplish this task like it once did - and did once yesterday ?

It's a known issue discussed in the MS KB article, Internet Explorer Does Not Save Graphics Files in the Proper Format.

The fix that works 99% of the time is the first one listed on that page: empty the browser's cache...Internet Explorer>Tools>Internet Options>Delete Files button. When you click that button, you'll get a dialog box asking about deleting offline content as well. Check the box to tell it yes and click OK. Don't know why that is necessary but it usually is.
