    Hi friends

This seems to be a standard issue that is addressed in various forum. However..

As we know some BIOS will only show all drives as SATA.
If i connect a slaved.jumperSet.IDE it will NOT appear in the 1st page of the BIOS. (jumperSet as master still nothing in 1st page)

In the BIOS Booting Priority, it may appears as IDE but the name of the HardDisk is missing, that is provided it is jumperSet the IDE as master. If i jumperSet as slave, it will not appear at all in this Booting Prority.

In all settings, the IDE do not appear in the win7.ComputerManagement.

    Any views to help?

I wouldn't imagine a mix of SATA and PATA/IDE would be provided by BIOS manufacturers. Most boards these days are SATA and you would be hard pressed to find a new IDE HDD to purchase.
We are rapidly moving towards SSD as there are no spinning parts to wear out. Neil.

That may be true Down Under, but a Google search for "IDE HDD" results in a number of different IDE/PATA hard drives (primarily from Seagate/Maxtor and Western Digital) at newegg and Amazon. Amazon has particularly attractive pricing.

Do understand that master and slave ONLY apply to IDE (PATA/EIDE) drives. This is because you can put two IDE drives on a single IDE cable. And you ONLY use slave if there are 2 IDE drives connected to a single cable AND the first drive is set to master. That is, if the first drive is set to master the second drive MUST be set to slave. Alternatively, you can set both the IDE master and the IDE slave to CS (cable select) and the interface will sort out which is which by the drive's location on the cable.

The master is always on the opposite end from the motherboard connector and the slave is always in the center connector. And you can tell which end is which because the slave connector is always closer to the master end.

SATA cables only support 1 drive. So there is no master or slave setting with any SATA drives - even if IDE drives are installed in the system too.

As far as appearing in the BIOS, they do have to be working drives.

You should know by now i am always using old things as they do still work very fast.

You are very right, the harddisk must be working to appear in the BIOS. Hence I found the working IDE HD will appear in the another page of the BIOS.

The following is my latest understanding
    1. The 1st page will normally only show the SATA HD. All SATA HD are shown as Master by the BIOS, new or older.
    2. The main point is there is another page that list the order of booting of harddisk. The IDE will appear in this list.
3 For a MASTERED IDE (by cable or jumper), if placed on the 1st line, it will boot from this Master IDE.
4 If it is a SLAVED IDE, it must be placed after the bootable eg SATA driver.

Hope this settles it. Anyway i have resolved my problem with the above.
