Made a bit of a bo bo recently and bought a hard drive to replace a failed HD in an XP PC. Turns out the current HD is IDE but the new one is SATA. Is there a cheap, quick and easy way to cable the drive in so it works?

I assume that there are no SATA ports on your motherboard? If not look at a PCI SATA Controller

Remember that the XP install CD has no SATA drivers on board - you must load these at F6 during the install process - requires a floppy drive. SATA drivers may be available on your motherboard CD or from the manufacturer's web site.

If you have no floppy drive .....

Install Windows XP on SATA without a Floppy (F6)

That depends on which XP CD. XP CDs with SP3 do have common sata drivers included. XP original CDs don't.

I use two of them, work flawlessly, no SATA drivers needed, as you connect the SATA drive to the converter with the IDE cable from the converter to your IDE connector on your motherboard.
