I am using an A7N8X-E DeLuxe MotherBoard.

I have a SATA drive and a CD drive connected by ribbon cable to the second channel, ie the black connection rather than the blue one on the MotherBoard.

    Everything works fine.

However, when I add a PATA drive as a second drive, and connect this as a slave to the ribbon connecting the CD, my system will not boot.

I certainly would appreciate any suggestions as to what could possibly be causing the problem.

I suspect I should have made some changes to the Bios, ie Boot order or something like that but I get lost trying to decide which is HDD1 or HDD2 etc.

    Many Thanks.

SATA drives don't use ribbon cables.... So I'm confused as to what you're doing;)

PATA aka IDE drives use ribbon cables.

The SATA Drive is connected by the SATA Cables and the CD is connected by ribbon cable.

The SATA Drive is left in place and the IDE Drive is then added, attached as a slave drive to the CD Drive ribbon cable.

You will probably have to make the change in BIOS and your IDE HD will have to be Slave connect.
Also, the IDE ribbon cable usually has the end connector as the Primary, so you will need to ensure that the CD ROM drive is changed to suit ie. Master or Slave. Neil.

Well I have solved this, or at least my grandson solved it for me. Smart SOB, and there is no doubt he is going to be waaay ahead of the other kids when he finally finishes kindergarten and goes into 1st grade. :D

Anyhow, this is the solution for anyone who may encounter something similar.

In the Bios there are a number of Boot order options/selections.

SCSI or Raid and Boot Devices 1, 2, 3, all of which were set correctly.

However, there is another option also, called - Other Boot Device, and I don't know what this is for.

Regardless, it was set to 'Disabled' and for no particular reason I changed it to 'Enabled', and my problem went the way of it's dinosaur ancestor's.

Thanks to all for any time spent on my behalf.

As always, any help is much appreciated.

    Cheers.
