Using a sandisk 4G cruzer for ready boost in Vista Home Premium 32. It created a drive for the memory stick and 2 CD drives for the data on my computer. When I try to use the uninstall in the software that came with the stick, I get the message that I will only with one flash drive installed and to disconnect the second one, but I only have one installed? So, it will not uninstall the U3 software. Any thoughts on how to remove the software from the stick? I also downloaded the uninstall from sandisk and from U3, but get the same message that I have more than one flash drive installed. This may belong in Hardware or other software, but the only reference to this was in the Vista forum and the thread is closed.

    Thanks

Try uninstalling the U3 software on another computer. If you don't have any luck, open Computer, right-click on the drive, select Properties -> Tools tab and run Error Checking on the drive.

Do a websearch for the wording of the error message (at Sandisk?).

Look in Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management -> Storage -> Disk Management. Check that the drive appears to be listed correctly.

    Thanks mattman,

I disabled the ready boost and removed the stick from my computer and the extra drives are now gone, but am afraid put the stick on another computer thinking that it will create new drives on the new computer. I was trying to get rid of the launchpad software from the stick so that I could use it like a normal stick. But, the uninstall software won't work on my computer. Perhaps, I will give it a try on my laptop and see what happens? I have Vista Home Premium 32 on both computers.

Check that the ReadyBoost.sfcache file has been deleted or when you re-connect it, Vista might automatically start using it for ReadyBoost again.

I think you are right in trying to remove the U3 Launchpad software and I would guess that it is the reason why you are seeing numerous drives. Yes, try uninstalling it on another computer is my suggestion. Launchpad makes encrypted and virtual folders.

Try reading through the sticky posts here:
    http://communities.sandisk.com/sandisk/board?board.id=u3

U3 might be corrupted so you might need to try reinstalling it before uninstalling it again.

Vista may see your CD/DVD drives as "removable drives ". If so, try disabling them in Device Manager (like in the suggestion in my previous post) and running the U3 uninstaller again.

    Hi mattman,

I have two CD drives, three external hard drives and three card readers installed. I followed your suggestion and put in my laptop, did not run the launchpad, but did run the external uninstall program from the U3 site and it worked. It reformatted the stick and all of the pre installed programs are now gone.

Thanks for your suggestion. It worked in my case. Now I will put it back on my desktop and use it for ready boost.
