    Hey All,

Hmmm where do I start.... I have 2 PC's shareing same internet connection (cable modem) they do not have file share or printer share set up and I want to keep it that way!

Allthough I can see other cpu listed in network neighborhood
(I should right?) This is a LAN correct? I want to find out how to see my origanal IP address as I feel I need to go back to square one in setting this whole thing up through the router and a fire wall (something I have no idea about). And I am not sure where to start as I am a beginner but want my cpus secure from attacks. I know this is the network area of the forum but I thought I should start here as to the settings I might need for the 2 cpus to share same connection.

    Thanks for any help offered,

    FireDancer

To view a lot of the current IP settings and protocalls, from XP or 2K click RUN then type cmd then in the resulting window type ipconfig /all . From Win 9X just type ipconfig /all in a DOS window.
If you connect your machines to a router, you shouldn't need a software firewall as the router should act as a hardware firewall.
And yes essentially you will have created a small LAN, and should be able to see each machine from each machine. If you don't share any files or folders on either machine, you won't see any, just the name you have given the machine. Both machines also have to be in the same 'Workgroup'

    Good luck
