    Hi Folks,

I use "safely remove" a lot so I'd like to set up a keyboard shortcut for it. (The icon is very tiny, after all.)

Is it possible to do a "safely remove" from the "run command" box? If so, I can do the rest from there.

    Jennifer

Hmm - doesn't work for me neither.

I can create the shortcut and that works, but then I am told that the drive is not removable

I guess you need to extend your search.

PeteC, I thought so but didn't have time to check it all.

Henipatra, it's so easy to miss something in a set of instructions, print the instructions and just go through one step at a time, it will work;)

I'm certain I followed the instructions exactly. Doing it over won't change that.

Is there some way to mark this thread I Give Up?

On a related issue, I hate the way it says it can't release the device because it's in use. It should BLOW AWAY whatever's using it and release it anyway.

What about the link Tony gave in post 8, have you tried that?

There can be other services that are connecting with a USB device and if data is still being transfered and you disconnect too soon, you loose the data.

Yes, of course I have. I don't recall seeing anything about a command line with that. All it is is a lot of ooey-GUI nonsense with a lot of options I'll never use.

And yes, I DO want to blow away whatever's using it and **** whatever's being transferred. I'll wait for anything important to finish BEFORE I request the removal.

I don't see any GUI nonsense, this software does exactly what you have asked for. A couple of clicks and your USB device will be disconnected, you can create a hotkey for it and there is a list of commands that will work from the Run command box.

That is what you asked for in your opening post:confused:

I tried it and it works. I was able to bypass the GUI interface and remove the drive with NO clicks, just a keyboard shortcut, which is good. And I didn't even need to create a shortcut.

Now, if there were only some way to automatically blow away any application that may be using the device so it doesn't fail to release . . . .
