    A recent problem .....

Each time I invoke Safely Remove Hardware to disconnect an external hard drive or plug in CF card reader my broadband connection disconnects. More an irritation than anything else, but clearly 'not right'.

BTW - Simply clicking on the icon in the Notification Area drops the connection which automatically reconnects after 60 secs.

ADSL modem is USB and is listed in Safely Remove Hardware of course.

No recent hardware changes, only software changes restricted to Windows Updates (XP SP2 Pro fully patched) and a recent install of Photoshop CS3 (after the problem started).

    Any thoughts?

    Pete:

Did this same behavior start about the same time your PSU began experiencing problems at startup?

    Hi Rockster

As I recall it started before the startup problems with the PSU, but only by a month at the most.

Scratching my head on this one and would appreciate a little intervention from ReggieB re: your particular modem and any related modem software if you installed it. My normal modus operandi is to avoid any router or modem software if at all possible and set devices manually. You may be able to track specific modem behavior through one of the forums at DSLReports which has some very good modem specific information. I've found this to be very helpful when "stuck" on a piece of equipment that insisted upon misbehaving. Sorry, but have little else to add at this point in time.

    ;)
