I get confused when I see the following 3 statements on which one is used for what "

    1. Start windows in safe mode.

    2. Start windows using last known good configuration.

    3. Start windows using recovery console and restore using the most recent full backup.

Can someone please help me as to what you would use first and for what situations, please. I would really appreciate it.

    thanks

"Start windows in safe mode" is often used to troubleshoot some issue that involves a file that would be "in use" if booted normally. It can also be used to install programs that have a problem being installed in the normal fashion due to interference from other programs running in the background. Safe mode does not start up any unnecessary programs nor run any unnecessary services.

"Start windows using last known good configuration" is used when Windows won't start when booting normally or starts with a problem. It uses the last version of the Registry that booted succesfully. That can cure some startup problems that may occur when some new software has been installed that causes a booting problem.

"Start windows using recovery console and restore using the most recent full backup" is used when Windows has a booting problem that can't be resolved in any other mode. It is a command line based type of program so it requires some reading to find out how to use it and what command are available. Command line usage is critical and must follow very exact syntax rules.
