I want to use an old Hi8 S-video output on the camera as the output to a VGA analog input on a computer monitor, no computer in between.

Does anyone know if any of these devices will do that? If not, is there a cheap other way?

As long as you have the correct gender for each connector, you should be fine with something similar to the 4th and 5th adapters on your list.

There must be something different between the way your and my browser are displaying the linked page. Mine is arranged by price, low to high.

The fourth and fifth ones down specifically state in their descriptions they work only with TV-capable VGA output to S-Video input. My need is the opposite, S-Video output to the VGA connector on a monitor.

    Here's their description:
"Work with laptops and desktops with VGA Card that has TV-Out function capability "

That is why I said, "something similar" and "correct gender ".

Please also understand these cables are not one-way devices. While it says, "to ", they will work "from" a device too. But again, the gender of the connector really matters here. You need to study your camera and study your TV/Monitor and see if they have male or female connectors, then you can decide which cable you need. Note you might go check out your local Radio Shack. Then you can touch and feel before buying to make sure you have the right one.

If you want more specific help, you will need to provide your exact camera and TV brand and model numbers. From there, Google those to find manuals/spec which will hopefully reveal the connector types.

    It's not a TV; it's a monitor.

Anyway, I ordered one in the wee hours of this morning. It's description states specifically it converts S-video-out to VGA-in. I've tried three different ways to post a link to the one I ordered; but, the link somehow keeps getting misdirected to a page that says the item has been discontinued when it hasn't.

The link works when I paste it into my browser's address field but not when I paste it into this post.

    Anyway, here's the description:
This is VGA/S-video/RCA to VGA converter switch. It has VGA, S-video and RCA video input with VGA output, by which it enables the video in DVD, DVR PC host, etc to be displayed on PC monitor or LCD. Single button for easy switch between different input sources.

    Okay, sorry. But same difference.

Anyway, I am glad you found one that will meet your needs. Let us know how it works.

That is odd. What's the link?

You may have bought the last one. What is the brand and model number?

Hmmm. That is odd. I can see the device if I search on that item number at his virtual store front. But like you, when I try to post the link here, I get redirected to an ebay "not available" message like this.

So don't worry, it is not your machine. :)

In fact, the problem is here at WindowsBBS with their "...about to leave the Windows BBS web site" intercept applet. I just pasted that same link in posts at two other sites and it went right to the device. It appears it does not like the very long URL as this works just fine.

And to that, it looks like that device will serve your purpose just fine too.

    About the link problem:

Other sites simply open links in another tab or window. This redirect detour is an unnecessary annoyance.

It is, but note the problem is with the WindowsBBS software. The idea for the interjecting a delay before posters are taken off site is a good security feature, but there appears to be a bug it when dealing with such long urls. And that ebay url is very long.
