Why do I now get this error message when opening a graphic utility which has worked ok previously?

    "Runtime error 429
Active X Component can't craete the object "

    Things to try:

    - uninstall and reinstall the app

    - start~run~sfc /scannow with your XP CD in place and see if it finds and replaces any bad files. Note, if you have SP1 installed and aren't using a slipstreamed CD with the OS and SP1 merged, you will need to re-apply SP1 after the scan if any files are replaced.

    - start~run~cmd and then chkdsk c: /f and answer Yes to doing the check at next boot then reboot.
