    Happy New Year to all.
    OS , XP PRO
Just de-fragmented a pc for a friend. report stated 'unable to de-fragment a number of files' Total of files not de-fragmented = 30. File size ranges from 2 MB up to 66MB.
    Type of files = Windows \System32. Windows System\ Temp_NET.
Documents and Settings. Program files. System Volume Information\_restore. and System volume\ CATALOG.WCI\00010010.CI.
Question, Should I attempt to de-fragment these files? if yes.
    Why and how?
Report also states. Volume fragmentation Total =7 %
    File " " = 14 %
    Free space fragmentation =0 %
Does this relate to the results of de-fragmentation?

Those are system files and generally speaking you don't need to worry about them... Defraging them won't make any difference.

Agree with Steve. Just leave them.

What did you use to defrag?

Yeah on the standard windows one. I have tried several and always go back to the built in one.

Happy New Year and stay safe.
