I am currently, as of today, running Firefox 2.0.0.20 and version 3.5.2 on the same system.

In version 2, I could click (tools > clear private data). Is there such an option in version 3.5.2 and if so how do I set that up? I like the idea of cleaning things up when I leave a secure site like on-line banking.

Also, is there any way to tie the Firefox version directly to the correct profile, or do I have to manually select the profile I want during Firefox startup? I guess I can learn to live with that until such time that my wife and I get done testing version 3.5.2 and remove the old version.

Our operating system is Windows XP home SP3 if that matters.

Romona, Thank you for the Firefox 3.0 tips and tricks post. Without that I would still be scratching my head trying to figure out how to convert our favorites and such.

I assume that you have created different profiles for your versions. You don't say how you created the profiles, but, since you mention Ramona, you should visit her website. One page tells you how to by-pass the profile manager . The procedure is the same for Firefox as it was for Netscape.I don't have v.2.0.0.20, but the settings are similar in 3.5.2. Thank you Westside. That works great for starting Firefox automatically pointing to the correct profile. For future reference, can I assume that anything that I see written for Netscape also applies to Mozilla Firefox? I have never used Netscape so I don't understand the connection between Netscape and Firefox. Much of Romona's web site is about Netscape.

I created the profile for Firefox 3.5.2 by coping the Firefox release 2 profile folder into a new folder, then followed the guide provided in Romana's sticky thread above to delete the files and folders that would not convert from release 2 to release 3.0. Then used profile manager to create a new profile, pointing to the new release 3 profile folder. I hope that answers the question.

Netscape7 was built around the Mozilla suite of browser and mail (now Seamonkey). Then, Mozilla decided to go, like IE, to a browser only called Firefox. Netscape 8 and 9 were browser only based on Firefox.
The differences, on a hard drive, are that Mozilla, etc. have this pattern: Profile|xxxxx.slt, while Firefox, etc. have a folder called: xxxxx.profilename. Profile (actually profilename) or profilename are shown in the profile manager, and should be used to open the program.
