    Hi,

Can someone tell me if there is a run command for Control Panel and Microsoft update.

I'm fine tuning a laptop for a friend and it would be handy to have a shortcut.

    Thanks.

I'm not aware of and cannot find reference to a run command for Control Panel, but the simplest way is to open Windows Explorer and drag Control Panel to the desktop.

For Windows/Microsoft Update right click on Update in the Start list and select Send To > Desktop (create shortcut).

Pete, she doesn't have microsoft update on her start menu. Odd I know. I guess I could put the I.E. link to the update website on her desktop and pin it to her start menu.

Arie, thanks for the run commands. Using control in Run is handy.

If you put the Run commands into a new Shortcut that works as well.

Do you mean a desktop shortcut? Or a key combination shortcut?

Desktop shortcut. In the NewShortcut dialogue type Control for Control Panel or Control wuaucpl.cpl for Update in the Location box and follow the 'wizard through - Windows will do the rest.

Okay here's my dumb question. How do you get to the New shortcut from a run command? Drag and drop from Start menu is easy. Just curious to learn new things. :)

I figured it out. Right click on desktop.
