I have Vista Transformation pack installed on Windows XP. After applying security update KB925902, I recieve the following error upon startup

The system DLL user32.dll was relocated in memory. The applicaton will not run properly. The relocation occurred because the DLL C:WINDOWS\system 32\HHCTRL.OCX occupied an address range reserved for Windows system DLL's. The vendor supplying the DLL should be contacted for a new DLL.

    Hello ms1033,

Have you tried uninstalling the MS Update?

You write it is a security update which will create an Add/Remove entry and will also create a System Restore point.

KB925902 doesn't come up in a search. Is the number correct?

    Regards - Charles

Its been "safe" up to now - the probabilities are with you. I don't think you have a choice unless you choose not to use the application.

This is a MS patch that may have been rushed and has unintended side effects. If these side effects are widespread enough, MS will issue a "patch" for the patch.

See this thread in the security section:

    MS security patches released early
    http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=63636

In the meantime I have confirmed that the KB # is correct.

From what you write, there is a problem with the two interacting. Where the "fault" lies I have no idea.

It may turn out that this patch has wider negative effects.

    Update on problem

I uninstalled the security patch and everything is back to normal.

I hope Microsoft fixes this soon.

    Hello ms1033,

There is a site to test your Browser's and Anti Virus's reponse to the Ie Ani cursor exploit.

    http://zert.isotf.org/tests/testani.htm

All the major AV's have added updates for this exploit. It's just another means to attempt to download a trojan.

Upon execution, it drops the following file: %SYSTEM%\sysload3.exe

Besides the AV protection, any other program with execution prevention would block the exploit.

BTW, this exploit has been known to MS since the last quarter of 2006. Also look at the "More info" links of the patch on information about the exploit and under what conditions you would get infected.

There's probably going to be a fair amount of this. I see there's another thread about it here and my sister just called me this morning with the same problem. Her computer updated yesterday and it included this update. Uninstalling it, took care of the issue for her too. I had her change her updates to "notify me" and told her to wait a while and call me about them from now on. :)

I've got the update waiting for me too at this moment. Think I'll hold off a while. :D MS will no doubt be releasing some type of patch for this. Two people here that have this problem the first day it's issued and now my sister leads me to believe there will be more.

I'm considering taking my phone off the hook for this one. :D

Hmmm, they knew about this and still put the update out? Seems to me they shouldn't foist this type of thing on people without some type of warning about it. Yes, it's all there in the article, but who that uses automatic updates ever sees that? Especially since most people have auto updates set to the default of download and install. 10 lashes with a wet noodle go to MS for this one. :)

That's two updates in a row that have bit people in the butt who use Automatic updates.

    I'm confused.

Will KB935448 fix the problem for KB925902????????????

    Should I install KB925902 and then KB935448??????

Or should I wait for a better MS patch

IS kB935448 a beta patch fix or no????????

And why did they not release KB935448?

Whats this about KB928843? I don't think I have a problem with that one?

I have another XP computer, suppose KB925902 does not cause the error or I do not hae RealTex installed, do I need KB935448 or no????????/

    Hi ms1033,

The other KB's are RealTek specific.

I think you should sit tight. By now your AV should have updated for this threat. What AV are you running?

Well, the advisory is saying if you have a problem with RealTek.

Are you having a problem with it?

Just wait for MS to resolve this :) I don't think it will be long.
