When attempting to join a client to the domain i continue to receive a...'rpc server is not available' msg. I have started the service on the Windows Server 2003 machine as well as the client. I am able to ping by IP address as well as by host name in both directions. Both have access to the router...HELP!

First let's get the basics out of the way. Have you set up your systems so that they use the server as their primary DNS? If not, that's the first thing to do.

    The RPC server

Well beleive it or not I have tried all of these ideas and nothing is happening, today i just pulled the HD, I'm replacing it with a 160gb and now my issue is "boot failure" when attempting to install Server 2003 on the new drive. I f8 for the boot options, choose CD and 'boot faliure' press any key to continue. In setup the drive is seen, it is also a boot choice, it is new and clean so I of course choose the CD as that is where the Server 2003 software is located.

    Any ideas?

Best way I find to install an OS is to go into the BIOS set-up (On the very first screens as the PC boot - that is seconds before you get to the option to use F8). Entry the BIOS setup and then choose the option to have the CD/DVD drive as your first boot device. F10 and save the setting. Then put the OS CD in the drive and reboot. You should then be able to boot to the CD and start the installation.
