I use a VeriZon MiFi card via Linksys WUSB100 wireless adapter for 'High Speed' internet access and I have several pieces of software (NetBeans is the primary one) that refuse to use the WUSB100 interface, and will only use a regular dial-up connection, which I still have configured for emergency use when VeriZon is down.

I am running XP W/SP3 on a Dell Vostro 410 desk top.
Dialup over modem (normally not connected)
    Ethernet1 Linksys WUSB100 (DHCP 192.168.1.X)
Ethernet2 (Home Network, normally disabled - static 10.0.0.10)

Netbeans will timeout unless the Dialup is in use, even though the WUSB100 is active and other programs are using it to access the internet. How can I force the use of a particular interface?

Netbeans is a java development platform. Why would it need Internet access? The full download includes Apache Tomcat server, and it must be properly configured for networking. Please clarify the software that won't use your existing network connection because this does not seem to be a networking issue, but rather it seems to be an issue with configuring "other" software.

I use Netbeans to pull down the project updates from the server on the web as well as compile, etc on my local system. It works correctly and reaches the server only if the Dialup connection is active. If the only connection is the WIFI, then it will time out when attempting to update from the server. Monitoring the WUSB interface with the Windows task manager, does not see any network activity at all when Netbeans should be communicating with the server. I don't feel it is routing to the interface.

I don't use Netbeans, but after some research I believe the issue can be caused by several possible things:

    1. IE > Internet Options > Connections tab - set the dial up connection to "dial whenever a network connection is not present "

    2. Setup dialup and LAN to NOT use any type of proxy

    3. Verify that Netbeans is allowed in Windows firewall (or any other firewall)

Any installed program that uses the Internet or local network should default to the current connection in use by Windows unless the software has its own settings where connections can be selected.

This 2009 article shows a known bug with Netbeans and proxy servers:
JDBC connection does not interpret proxy exceptions correctly
