have previously had routing easily configured with NT 4.0 and multiple NICs - having trouble with 2000

Microsoft says set the IpEnableRouter parameter to 1 to enable routing between network cards

other Microsoft texts say to enable routing via the Microsoft Management plug-in and the Routing Wizard

Have tried both of these with various network cards with failure on all accounts - the only routing I've ever successfully set up is the sharing - which changes the address of the system sharing to 192.168.0.1

    what is the secret ?

I was hoping someone would jump right in with a fix. Guess not.

2000 is supposed to take care of more of the routing housekeeping than NT4 did. Less stuff you need to set up.

Take a look at Q157025 and see if there is any help there.

Does route print show you the information you expect to see there?

If you really need help, try posting some detail of the exact setup on your NICs.

Have you considered getting a real router? Always works smoother than multi-homing a PC and telling it "you are a router ".

I was hoping there was something I'm missing like an
IpEnableForwarding for the individual adapters that some one else has figured out

the route table looks perfect - and when you do an ipconfig /all you get confirmation that routing is enabled

beginning to wonder if plain old static routing works with 2000

There were some known issues with static routing with the original release of 2K. Many fixed with SP1 and the remainder were supposed to have been taken care of with SP2. The main symptom was the routes would vanish after 15-20 minutes.

Can't offer any direct experience since I've not tried routing with a multi-homed 2K box.
