Hello, I am Forsaken Knight. I am starting this thread to receive help with dealing with my problem with my Room pc. The problem is that ever since three weeks ago, my Room pc just started to freeze when I tried to connect to the wireless network of my household. The problems in my house hold started when System Tools 2011 appeared in one of the three pc's in my household. The pc that System Tools 2011 was found on was my grand parents pc. The pc that I am addressing in this thread is my room pc. My room pc is having two problems. One is that a trojan was recently found during a scan of my pc. The other problem is that my room pc freezes. I have started a thread to deal with the maleware and virus removal for my pc. That thread can be found here.

The original thread that I addressed all three pc's in can be found here.

I am starting this thread in order to request help in the area of my Room pc network problem. Any help in this area will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you, to who ever will post advice for me in this thread. I look forward to hearing positive responses.

You need to post the logs, (just as you did with the previous PC) in the Malware and Virus forum. After malware removal you can return here if there are any further issues.

This is what I posted earlier today in the malware removal thread of mine regarding the same pc. I got a connection now, but the connection is really poor. the signal strength is always low, and the mbps is 5.5 or 1.0 at any given current time.

I would like to know how do I fix my network connection so that I get the highest mbps as I did before? I could get as strong as 130 mbps and a strength of very good. I would like help to achieve this status again.

For your wireless adapter I would download the latest driver from the manufacturers site, uninstall the device then re-install with the new driver.

It sounds like Avast is causing a problem. You could waste a lot of time trying to find out why so I would download the removal tool from there web site and use that to remove it completely. Then download and install Microsoft Security Essentials from this link:

The wireless adapter is a NetGear WN111v2. Where should I go for an update driver for my wireless connection?

I unstalled my old version of avast and zone alarm, and installed the latest version of both of those programs. Same as before, the free versions. Not sure If I want to switch to MSE. Maybe its because I'm loyal to Avast.

I have the cd that I used to install the software for the wireless adapter. I inputted that cd, and on the automatic screen that pops up, I clicked on the choice to update my drives. I should note that there are two cd's that my wireless adapter came with; I put in the one that on the front specifies drivers. I follow the on screen instructions, and the instructions get to the point where the cd program for updating indicates that the installed drivers are up to date for the drivers that are on the cd compared to the ones on my room pc. So, I figure to do a clean install. I then click on the second option of the cd window, for the online read me text for my version of the net gear wireless adapter. I then scroll to the bottom of the web page to see an option to go to the net gear official site. I right click on that hyperlink and open it in a new window. I then use the search function to find the most up to date driver for WN111v2 wireless adapter. I find the following one, 3.0, by the following link.

    http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/12656/kw/WN111v2

I then follow the instructions. I Download the driver, follow the instructions to uninstall the current drivers, and use the newly downloaded driver to re-install the wireless adapter. After fully installing the driver with the new drivers from the Net Gear web site, I checked to see if my connection is better. The highest signal strength status is Excellent, and the max I have seen my wireless go for mbps is 130.0. Right now, as I right this update, the status is excellent and at 107 mbps. I should note that I did not do anything on the actual router side of my wireless network. I only dealt thus far with the software on my room pc side of this issue. So, for now, not sure later, but now, the wireless seems better.

Its good now, but I want to know if I can set the signal to be better. Like, could I set my wireless network up to only send/receive signals to my laptop and room pc wireless connections? If I could do that, would that increase the signal strength permanently for the two wireless devices in my house hold? Or is it that I can not specify the devices that are able to receive my wireless network signal? Please keep in mind that there is a security settting of WPA2-PSK.

Sorry for the delay in replying I have been off line for the last two days.

Glad to hear that reinstalling the drivers got you back on line. The signal strength is dependent on the wireless router, there is little you can do to increase its power other than getting a more powerfull router. Don't confuse speed of connection with power of signal, the speed is governed by your ISP and there is nothing you can do to change that other than changing your account to increase your speed.

The only common device to interfere with wireless signals is cordless telephones. If you have one make sure it is kept away from the router or your PC's.

As this PC is now repaired could you please mark it as resolved from the Thread Tools tab in the top right hand corner of the first post.
