I know this is for Windows users but like myself more and more people are running non Microsoft operating systems alongside their windows OS.

I myself had an issue recently with my Ubuntu installation after an update and my foolish mind first thought of asking the many brilliant minds here for assistance. Anyway long story short rather than register to yet another forum I managed to solve the issue myself.

I'm not suggesting we take on all and sundry issues just a simple "other OS's" board even if most of the replies would be to refer to a more specific forum for the questioner's issue.

I'll drink to that. Quite a few other MB's do have a section like that.

Guys - this is WINDOWSBBS - a Microsoft Community website. IMHO it would be inappropriate.

    No worries Pete, Chillax :)

I was merely suggestion a staging point where a question wasn't appropriate for windows but some users could still ask and, if simple enough given a straight answer or directed toward a more appropriate MB.

If an open-source/Linux/alternate OS forum were to be opened up here, I'd hope that the linux evangelism that some of its adherents insist on doing, would be limited to that particular forum, and not infect the forums discussing Windows OSes. Good luck with that one, though.

There's really no point in looking up a thread you started, only to see someone telling you to install an alternate OS, and then find all the drivers and alternate programs, just to avoid having to tweak Windows. Evidently they feel it is useful for them, but it wastes my time.

As Arie has suggested Paul your fears are unfounded. I totally agree with your sentiments though some alernative OS users can get a little too enthusiastic about there choice.

As a Linux and Windows user though I'd never suggest an alternate OS as a solution to a problem except the use of a live CD for diagnostic purposes.

Yes, I think the General Discussions is a good place.
