I use free AOL email and recently when composing a message on email the text goes beyond the right margin than normal, in other words the text does not stop at right margin of the email box, I think they call this wrapping but I am not sure.

I use Windows XP Professional with SP3. I checked my PC resolution and it is on the highest (I have never changed it to a lower rsolution), checked the AOL email settings and all is fine there (there is no option to adjust the margins of the text on the email boxes but I believe they are set the right way with normal left and right margins).

I don't know how or why this is happening i came up all of a sudden when I turned on my pc and tried to send some emails to friends that's when I realized something was wrong. I googled the issue but found very few entries related to Yahoo mail where app[arently you can clikc on mail options and adjust the margins but not on AOL.

I would appreciate suggestions on how to fix this big inconvenience and to prevent it from happening again.

I just noticed that this happens nwhen I write the text directly on the mail box BUT NOT when I write the text elsewhere and then copy and paste it on the mail box (then it won't go beyond the right margin). This is strange!

Not too sure what the issue is here mazaprin, the margins are set by the recipient not the sender. Can you clarify what the recipients problem is and is it more than one?

Margins are set by the sender, not the recipient, esp if using Web mail. The margins being referred to here are margins in the message box.

Web mail uses an HTML <textarea> box for the message content. The formatting in a textarea can be controlled by HTML tags, CSS properties and JavaScript, as well as server side scripting.

If the text in a message box does not wrap, then the problem is due to AOL's Web interface and code.

Email clients, such as Thunderbird or Outlook Express, have a setting to "wrap text after X number of characters" when composing plain text messages. When composing HTML or Rich Text messages, using the return key auto adds an HTML line break <br> to the block of text.

Email clients also have settings for how messages are displayed, which can override the formatting in the message. But the actual formatting (margins) are set initially by the sender.

You are right TonyT, margins are set by the sender, in this case ME, but I have no control over the margins or wrapping.

I said that when I type text inside the AOL mail box the text keeps going beyond the right marging BUT when I copy a text somewhere else and paste it on the AOL mail box it gets wrapped and don't go beyond the right margin.

Let me clarify That I have been using AOL for many years and this is not usual because all AOL mail boxes are set for text to be wrapped and this issue came up sudenly due to unknown reasons.

There are no options on the AOL mail settings to adjust margins or to wrap it, they are inherent and automatically set by AOL (no need to set it up) so I could not find anything wrong in the regular AOL settings which only covers text size, color, font, etc...

This is a mystery to me and i am not able to contact AOL Tech Support becuase they will only attend paid AOL customers and I am a free user and I would have to pay $25 to get help from them.

Try using manual line breaks with the return key when the text approaches the edge of the message input box. Send self a test message to verify that line breaks are working.

Also, in the mail settings, you should have it set to send in HTML format if such a setting exists.

I know that I can do that and manualy break test with return key but that does not correct the issue.

The Email was set by AOL to receive HTML I can see pictures and text together on Emails I receive and SEND.

When I paste text from elsewhere it gets wrapped on the email box but when I myself type the text it goes beyond the right margin.

I included a picture on a test and the picture is shown without problems and the captions for the picture (added inside the frame of the picture) are wrapped on the frame. I sent the email to myself and I received it in the same condition I wrote it (typed text beyong the margin but picture and its captions wrapped)

This never happened to me on AOL emails until recently. I will try calling AOL support but I doubt they will help me unless I pay (and I don't want to) but I will call their attention that their settings for email are messed up so they can do something about it.

I just signed up for a free AOL email account so I could check it out. If I compose a message, the text automatically wraps to the next line when typing, it does not continue on the same line.

I sent the message to several of my other accounts and received them in Thunderbird and the message gets displayed just as I typed it.

In order for the text to auto wrap and the auto line breaks to be inserted the AOL Compose setting MUST be set to: Use Rich Text / HTML Editing.

My AOL mail is set for HTML content (otherwise I would not be able to send or receive text and pictures together).

I called AOL Tech Support and despite that I am a free user the tech there was kind enought to attend me he used remote to get on my pc and verify the issue. I also told him about other 2 issues regarding IE (for AOL browser) refreshing a website page over and over for about 6 or 7 times until it stops and also othe rissue is AOL freezes 10 or 15 minutes after logging in).

The tech confirmed to me that all the issues are related to the AOL software and not my pc that the margins and othe rparameters of the AOL Email are preset by the software and customer has no control over it so... my AOL software somehow became corrupted and my only option now is to uninstall
AOL from my PC and install a fresh copy and I plan to do that.

Thanks any way to all of you for your help. It was appreciated.
I will have to close this thread since I already got the solution.
