I have two IBM ThinkPads both running Win2000.

Both now have a fresh install on a partitioned drive C: & D: using partition magic.

Both have all critical updates and SP3.

The t20 no longer has the problem because I did a fresh install of Win2000. However my newer a30, for which i did a fresh install, has the following problem.

If I click Search-Files and Folders and close by RIGHT-CLICK in the taskbar ONLY, the system cashes. "Explorer.exe has generated errors and will be closed, a log is being generated...etc. "

This only happens with Files and Folders search, on the t20 it happend with many more Windows specific functons such as Recycle Bin, My Documents etc...but no installed programs.

    ****************************************
    The Application log shows this:

The application, explorer.exe, generated an application error
    The error occurred on 05/08/2003 @ 14:13:46.529
The exception generated was c0000005 at address 775783FE (waveOutOpen)

    Event ID: 4097 Category: None
    ****************************************

I did a search here and at Microsoft, but didn't come up with much help to fix the problem.
If anyone can help, would be greatly appreciated!
    Thank You

Interesting. That particular function is purely an audio media thing and the rest of the error sorta resembles an access violation.

Since it's generating a Dr. Watson log entry for this you might want to check that for more info. If not, please post the entire event log entry. Easiest is to open the event, click the icon below the up/down arrows (send a text copy to your clipboard) and paste that here.

Hi Newt, I can't paste it here, it's 35,000 characters long. Too long for this bbs ... The .EVT event log is 36KB and the .TXT is 360KB.

Can I email it to you?

    :D
