    I wonder if anybody can help me with a problem I'm having with the right click of my mouse. If I right click to open a file it comes up with a series of messages:

    Cannot open regkey

    then

    Error contacting VxD cannot file file specified

    then

    Incin.dll failed to init

    then the drop down menu opens up as normal.

    Does anybody have an idea what to do?????????

    You can use Regclean to fix that for you.
    http://download.com.com/3000-2094-881470.html?tag=list
    Put it into it's own folder, as it creates a backup of everything removed.
    Real simple to use, you start it and it is already examining, when it is finished, just click on Fix Errors.

    Thanks for the suggestion re regedit but it didn't work. Is there another possible solution? I've tried a registry clean up but it doesn't seem to make any difference.

    Paul Crowley--Are you sure about the spelling of incin.dll? A search at www.google.com comes up only with a few Japanese language sites as references. I do not have this file on my PC.
    What version of Windows are you running?
    P.S VxD files are generally drivers. Have you installed some new hardware lately?
    From webopedia.com "In Windows systems, a special type of device driver that has direct access to the operating system kernel. This allows them to interact with system and hardware resources at a very low level. "

    I didn't see where "Regedit' was concerned. My link was to Microsoft's very own Regclean.
    The Context Menu, obtained by right clicking on a file, is a very complex process. The file type selected will affect what shows up on it. There isn't one simple solution, as several Keys in the registry can and will be involved.
    But MS, has another file that may help, although a slight chance, on this, it is called TweakUI.
    http://www.microsoft.com/ntworkstation/downloads/PowerToys/Networking/NTTweakUI.asp
    The webpage tell how to install it, not a normal installation of an item, very simple to do.
    It will appear in Control Panel. When it first runs, you will have a help menu appear, you can go through it or close it.
    Click on Repair tab, where it say 'Rebuild Icon', change to 'Repair Associations' then click on Repair Now. Reboot if prompted.
    If the problem is still there, please post what does appear in the Context Menu. Items such as Scan with AV program, Zip and Email, and the like.

    Ummm...tried re-installing the mouse drivers?? 98se does support 2-button scrool mice, but I find that the actual software is better and causes less problems in the long run...

    This is assuming that you are using a 2-button scrool mouse....

    The file name is incin.dll all right. I don't really know why my Win98 machine is looking for this file but I haven't installed any Japanese programs (as far as I know).

    I also tried the TWEAKUI program and it didn't work either.

    Have you done a file find and used the text field search using incin as the keyword? This will give you several hits that aren't relevant but, if lucky, it may lead to a further clue as to what this driver is and why it's fussing.

    An exploratory registry search?

    ============
    A restart in dosmode where you can run the scanreg /fix command line from the c:\ prompt?

    ======
    That is the strangest wording for a file load error.
    Quote: "Error contacting VxD cannot find file specified "

    Perhaps you'd find this useful:
    http://www.lurkhere.com/~nicefiles/

    Click on the Startuplist 1.52.1

    You may wish to use it with the command line switches such as /Full. I believetheinstruts are on the bottom of the first startup list.
