I downloaded from a pop up ad spyblocs and
found it not to my liking. I uninstalled it.
During the uninstall process it asked if I wanted
to delete some files that appear not to be in use.
Like a dummy I said yes. Now 3 programs will not
    run:

    (1) PALM says it cannot intialize rich text
    support and will not run.

    (2) MICROSOFT STREETS 2004 just will not run.

    (3) ATOMIC CLOCK say TABCTL320CX not correctly
    registered. File is missing.

I used my IBM CON FIG safe program to roll back
in time. Still they did not work.

I reinstalled all 3 programs. Still they would
    not work.

All my other programs seem to be working. What
did I do and can I fix it short of reformating
and starting over. I am running Win 98.

I do not have the Win 98 cd. IBM put all the files
in the cab files. Is there a way to put missing
    windows 98 files back?

    Thanks, Jerry

The system files can be replaced by running the System File Checker, but if the files deleted were part of those program's files, sfc won't help. Try uninstalling the programs first, then reinstall. If you run sfc and it prompts you for the CD, point it to the cab files. You may need to visit Windows Update afterwards as it will often roll back some updated files.

To replace missing Windows system files, go to Start>Run, type in "sfc" (without the quotes), click OK.

From there you can choose to have System File Checker scan for altered files or to replace individual files that you designate.

It might be easier to try reinstalling "spyblocs" and uninstalling it again, this time leaving the files it says appear not to be in use.

jerry, if you ever run into this again - copy the files in question either to another folder or to a floppy/cd, otherwise, being gun shy, never get rid of useless files.

    Regards - Charles
