When scanning with both AVG and Norton, my computer restarts when I get to a file in the windows folder called Rhododendron.bmp. I didn't think graphics could have a virus, so what is the deal with this? It won't let me delete rename or remove the file. When I touch it, the computer restarts. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance

Can you do anything with it in the safe mode? Rename, scan with AVG, etc?

Hmm - this is a Windows file in XP, one of the desktop images available under Display Properties > Desktop

A Google search suggests it existed in earlier versions of Windows, too.

I was able to deal with this file by reinstalling Windows. Although it reinstalled it, I was able to complete a virus scan with the new file. I still have no clue why it was behaving as it was.

I found one security reference that indicated at least one backdoor trojan used a file named Rhododendron.bmp but the file was actually a .ini file for the critter rather than a bitmap image.

Sneaky too since that particular .bmp file is a standard wallpaper file on most M$ operating systems I think. It certainly is on my XP-pro PC at work. Just checked and found it but mine was just the picture.
