retrieving files from a damaged xp installation with file protection...

    had 2 harddrives in the machine, and the copy of xp on the primary died to the point where i gave up and installed xp on the other drive. now i can get into xp, but can't access the favorites or data from my login on the old installation of xp- theres some very important data in there, any ideas? any help would be great! thanks!:D

    Can you access the old drive at all?

    If no, try www.sysinternals.com who have some utilities that may give you access.

    If yes, are there some sections you can't get to?

    If no, say what data you want and someone will tell you where to locate it.

    If yes, have you tried doing (from a command prompt) chdksk /f (or if you have more time to spare, chdksk /r which is more exaustive)?
