Hi All, ............ The title words are what appears when I try to get my mail on a Windows XP system using Thunderbird V. 2.0.0.24 installed on the C: drive of a dual boot computer. The problem apparently developed on the F: drive with the installation of Windows 7 where I had added Thunderbird V. 3.1.6. and is common when attempting to get mail on either drive.

A search of this forum brought up only one response and that was for a Netscape installation over seven years ago. So far I have only been working with the C: drive condition and I have removed TB twice from the C: drive and reinstalled V. 2.0.0.24 (using the same Profile) but still get the same error. My next move will be to uninstall TB 3.1 from the F: drive. In the meantime, if anyone has any familiarity with this RETR (??) command or a solution to this condition I would appreciate hearing from you.

boy, I haven't seen that for a long time. So, login to your account using the webmail interface. Look for the oldest message. Its probably that message that is causing the problem. If its spam, delete it. If its a message with a huge attachments, save the attachments to your hard drive, and try to delete the message.

If this doesn't solve the problem, then you need to contact your email provider and ask them whats going on. Its usually a mail server problem, and not a thunderbird one.

I got several hits when I did a Search for "RETR command did not succeed & Thunderbird ".
In particular, I saw a lengthy thread on the Mozilla Messaging newsgroup. This leads me to ask which is the ISP. Yahoo is, very often, creating problems, as it requires authentication.

Westside, ................ No, my ISP not Yahoo. Apparently my system is back to normal. See below. Thank you for your interest.

Z Purple Hippo, .......... You are probably correct to suggest that my ISP may be at fault. My e-mail is back to normal for each version of Thunderbird. This happened overnight without any adjustments by me. I'm going to mark this post as solved, I think Westside's and your comments deserve recognition should someone else have the RETR command problem . Thank you for your support.
