In the last few days, I have received an error message when trying to access Tools>Internet Options.

"This operations has been cancelled ue to restrictions placed on this computer. Please contact your system administrator. "

    Profile:
Recently reinstalled W2K OS SP4, old Micron PC, 785 MB Ram, 2 HD 80 GB each, 648 mHz, MSIE 6.0 SP1

I have downloaded some anti-spyware programs and changed email ISP's (two months ago), otherwise, no major changes in system.

Can anyone direct me to setting to salvage access to Internet Options.

    I am administrator.

Hi Goaglen. This could indicate a malware infection but try this fix and see if you can the internet options back up. Click Start< Run and type regedit and press enter. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions and look for the nobrowseroption key. When you found right click it and select modify. Change the value to 0. Close the registry editor. Reboot the computer. See if you can access the Internet Options window now. :)

    Mr. Omo,
    Solution worked perfectly. Mille grazzi
    Problem terminated!
Scans do not indicate malware, virus or spybot. But have heard of a recent serious threat. Symantec scan for Downadup.exe was negative. Have no tool to check for Conficker.
Regardless, fix worked fine to restore access to Tools>Internet Options

Some antispyware programs add restrictions to Internet Options. Check the settings in the ones you installed.
