I currently have a Wireless Internet connection and a local area network side by side. I created a network bridge so that users on the LAN could access the Internet via a computer picking up the wireless transmittion and broadcasting it across the LAN . However, i would like to limit who can use the bridge network because at the minute anyone can enter as long as they change their workgroup and IP address. Is there any way of doing this?
I am a novice at networking so if i have explained anything wrong just tell me:)

    Thanks

    Alex

Seems like your wireless network is not secured. Go into your wireless router & turn on the security (WEP).

The Wireless network is protected with WEP, however the Internet is also broadcast around a wired LAN. The problem is is that anyone on the wired LAN can access it. Is there any way of restricting who can use it?

Wireless Transmitter -> Computer with wireless reciever -> wired LAN -> Computer without wireless reciever

I hope that shows it a little better

    Thanks

2 ways come to my mind:

    1. Turn off DHCP & use static IP in all your machines. Not very secure but if the new user is a novice, would work.

    2. Place an authentication server on your LAN so that the user have to first login & only then they are allowed net access.
