I want to use a time clock for tracking employee hours. I have XP Home and Pro on networked computers running a cash register system.

How can I keep employees from changing the clock?

    Thanks for any ideas

    Hi, Greg. :)

If they're changing the clock by clicking on the clock in the system tray in the bottom-right corner of the screen (a.k.a. "notification area "), then there is a ready-made registry edit tweak for that at http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Read the beginning of that page and then scroll to line 134 to find your tweak: "Hide the Clock in the Notification Area "
    • Right-click on the item and select "Save Link As..." (in Firefox) or "Save Target As..." (in Internet Explorer) to save the hideclock.reg file to your computer.
(Might be best to save it to a USB thumb drive that you can plug the into each computer that you need to use the tweak for.)
Note there is also a ready-made "Undo" tweak available right next to it (in case you ever decide to reverse your tweak).

I think you will need to log-on to each computer (that your employees can punch-in with) using an account with administrative privileges to perform the registry edits. Reboot after applying the tweak.

I assume the employees do not have privileged access to the computers' file systems/registries. :)
